Dating Tips for Those Who've Been Out of the Game for a While by Holly McCarthy

If you are newly single, or haven't been out there for quite some time, the world of dating is somewhat new and improved, for lack of a better phrase. However, some of the same old rules still apply when it comes to dating. Take a look at some of the following tips if you feel like you might just be a little rusty when it comes to dating.

Be Yourself

Although it is some of the most cliché-sounding advice you'll ever hear, it is so true. More and more, individuality is something that is celebrated, no matter how homogenized our society seems to be becoming. We may have more options, but we are all slowly becoming conformists for various reasons. Don't change who you are for anyone else; if you are comfortable with who you are, you need to wait for the person who will love you for being you.

Take Care of Yourself

In order to feel good about yourself, you're going to need to have high self-esteem. Make sure that you take good care of yourself in various ways. Eat well and make sure you get plenty of exercise and activity. Buy clothes that complement your body right now and that make you feel good when you wear them. Get a great haircut and look sharp—you never know when you're gong to run into someone special.

Hang Out with Your Single Friends

No one understands the plight of a single person like another single person. Social events and gatherings are more fun when you have someone to share the experience with, and you may just run into two friends of the opposite sex who are looking for someone to meet as well. Get out and about with your single friends regularly and own your life. You will meet someone who's right for you in time.

Use Caution if You Decide to Date Online

There are many stories in the news about online predators and people who scan dating sites just looking for action. If you are really looking for something serious, look into online dating sites and read reviews of the sites by users. This is one great thing about using the internet: everyone's a critic. Check into dating sites thoroughly before picking one. Most are not entirely free if you are serious about finding someone online, so do your research.

Will be going out with her on Saturday night

I am happy to tell you all that I finally got up the nerve and asked her out. After buying quite a few pastries, I simply ran out of place to keep them…

And then – yesterday – she turned to me and said, "How come you buy so much? Do you have a sweet-tooth?"

Blushing profusely, I replied, "No, you see.. I was passing through." And then realizing that I had been coming here for the last week – non-stop continued, "and I…" I just didn't know what to say.

She smiled backed. "Are you doing this to get to know me?"

Dumb, I though to myself – I am acting so nervously that she will surely reject me. "Well I was simply flabbergasted when I came in a few days back.. and you have such beautiful eyes that …."

"You are cute," she intervened. "And your Indian accent is so charming."

"How did you recognize my accent?"

"I love Indian and have only just returned."

What can I say – we began talking (ok – not for long – only about 10 minutes – she took a break). She mentioned that there is a great Indian movie at a theatre near her house and wondered whether I would like to go.

Well – between you and me – I do not like Indian movies – but I said yes. There is no need to tell her that – is there?

Met a Really Cute American

I want to tell you about one of the cutest people I have ever met. And I have been places – or at least a few countries. She has shoulder length dark brown curls that immediately rise up with the slightest breeze and a dimple right next to her left ear.

Lia – that is her name and though she has a slight limp, she has a voice that seems to belong to an Italian goddess. Sweet but fluffy.

Rushing home after work and crisscrossing through traffic I was forced to stop at a traffic light. The aroma from a nearby bakery made me realize that I had not eaten since 11 in the morning and so I parked, entered and saw her there. Wearing a white apron that broke off into frills a bit above her knee, she was helping an old (must have been) Pakistani or Indian lady pick out sweets. Pretending to be interested in the same sweets I approached her.

She smiled and asked, "Can I help you Sir" in a voice that made me forget lines that I was ready to say.

"Uhhh" was all I blubbered out.

I turned to leave but she placed her hand on my shoulder. "Maybe you want some sugar doughnuts? They are fresh."

I took six of those and six of some other kind too. Man – did I act dopey! So I was determined to go back the next day and make my move.

Well – today is yesterday's tomorrow and I have just returned from the bakery. I was a bit better this time – but there was a crowd and I barely managed to ask her name.

Tomorrow – I have a plan. I am going to take with me a lumpy briefcase and buy two dozen doughnuts. Naturally – I will not be able to carry them all – so I will ask her to help me take them all to my car.

What do you think? Clever? Will it work?

Politics gets sexy as new party launches

It is the sexiest political story in ages - the launch of Australia's newest political party at the nation's largest sexuality exhibition, Sexpo. Eros, Australia's national adult industry association, is launching the Australian adult party on Thursday and, among other aims, has set its sights on ending the federal government's plans for a national internet filter.

Eros chief executive and party convenor Fiona Patten said the party's creation acknowledged the importance and scope of sexual relationship issues in the lives of Australians. She said the "sex and gender party" would run candidates in future Senate and state upper house elections.

"People want their House of Reps members to balance the budget but increasingly they want their Senators to look after their rights and freedoms", she said.” The Sex Party is the beginning of a new chapter in Upper House politics."

The party's first priority would be to alert voters to the types of material that would be blocked by the internet filter, proposed by Communications Minister Stephen Conroy, Ms Patten said.

"Senator Conroy's plans actually threaten the existence of the Sex Party online, which represents a real challenge to political free speech", she said. The party was born in a time of "wowserism" in mainstream politics, Ms Patten said.

"Community attitudes to sex and censorship have been shown over and over again by community opinion polling to be more relaxed than ever and yet in politics, the opposite is the case. When was the last time you heard a politician say something positive about sex?"

The launch will take place at the opening of Sexpo, at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, at noon (AEDT) on Thursday. Meanwhile the nation's newest political party has come under fire from Christian groups even before its official launch.

The Australian Sex Party supports the exploitation and degradation of single woman through pornography and prostitution, the group’s say. The Australian Christian Lobby wants all other political parties to preference the party last on how-to-vote cards to prevent it taking seats in state and federal parliaments.

"Pauline Hanson was rightly put last on how-to-vote cards because of her inappropriate views on race," lobby director Jim Wallace said. “The Australian Sex Party should be treated in the same way for its inappropriate views about women.” The party's platform includes opposition to the national internet filter, supporting gay marriage and adoption of a national sex education curriculum.

Party convenor Fiona Patten says the party acknowledges the importance and scope of sexual issues in the lives of Australians. “I doubt we can be all things to all people," she told ABC Television.Sexuality and gender were important issues not being dealt with properly, she said.
